Kids Go to the Woods -- Kids Get Dead. In this film, a group of underage partiers venture into the wilderness, at which time, they meet their Earthly demise.
I don't personally know any of the people behind this movie, but, after watching, I kind of feel like I do. It feels as though I ran into some guy at a comic shoppe who found me so ubergroovy, he invited me to hang with his friends -- who end up showing me the film they made last fall. Sure, it isn't a great film, by any measure, but seeing the whole group onscreen -- portraying different characters -- was grand, and how often do you meet a group who whips up gut wounds and throat slashes whenever they get together?

If you were shooting a horror film based in the Australian Outback, would you seize the desolate landscape and escapeless atmosphere of the location to charge a full blown terror? Or would you snag a generous helping of the above and stir in some rollicking Aussie humor? Perhaps you'd be especially cavalier, thumb the perimeters of established horror genres and aim for something sleek, witty and mod -- like a Smokin' Aces with Ghouls in the Outback. Lots of angles to choose from.
Unfortunately, The Outback (Prey) couldn't pick one, either.

It seems poor Mr. Shyamalan cannot walk across the street without some lovin' his steps, and some downright hatin'. The debate extends well beyond the street, however -- curling its talons deep into the meat of his films. In a stunning turn of events, Wayne Spencer disses, and Zombie Boy actually liked something, for a change.

I picked up one of those $5 Walmart discs, the ones with multiple films. This was a horror edition, obviously, with four films. I figured they probably all sucked, but what the hell. You never know unless you take a chance. Salvage was the second one I watched, and right from the beginning I thought there might be something to it. It opens with a very Sam Raimi camera technique of sweeping along low to the ground, fast, occasionally raising up over obstacles, obviously in a salvage yard, until it bring us up to an axe and a poor, unsuspecting fool working on his truck. Then we get the title, and I thought maybe, just maybe, I was in for a treat. Turns out, I was. Read on.
